Ubud is Bali's cultural heart and spiritual capital, surrounded by terraced rice fields, ancient temples, and dense jungle. While Ubud town has plenty to explore on foot, the best experiences require a driver to reach the outlying temples, waterfalls, and viewpoints that make this region magical.

The Tegallalang Rice Terraces are just 15 minutes north of Ubud centre, offering Instagram-famous terraced landscapes and the famous rice field swing. From there, you can continue to the Kopi Luwak coffee plantation and the Sacred Monkey Forest back in town. A half-day driver covers all three comfortably.

For temple enthusiasts, Ubud offers the Tirta Empul holy spring temple (purification ceremony open to visitors), Gunung Kawi carved into cliff faces, and Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave). All within 30 minutes of Ubud. A full day driver lets you combine temples with waterfalls like Tegenungan and Tibumana.

From Ubud, the East Bali trip to Tirta Gangga Water Palace and Lempuyang Temple (Gates of Heaven) is closer than from the southern beach areas, making Ubud an excellent base for eastern explorations. The North Bali trip to Handara Gate and Ulun Danu Temple is also a popular full-day excursion.
