Uluwatu Sunset and Kecak Dance: Complete Guide

6 min read2026-02-28

The Kecak fire dance performed at sunset on the cliffs of Uluwatu Temple is one of the most mesmerizing cultural experiences in Bali. Over 100 men chant in rhythm while telling the story of the Ramayana, set against a backdrop of the Indian Ocean and setting sun.

The dance takes place daily at 6 PM in the amphitheater at Uluwatu Temple. Tickets cost Rp 150.000 per person and can be purchased at the gate. Seating is unreserved, so arrive by 5:15 PM for the best spots on the right side, which faces the sunset.

Before the dance, explore Uluwatu Temple itself. The temple sits 70 meters above the ocean on a dramatic cliff edge. Walk along the cliff path for stunning ocean views. Watch out for the monkeys, which are friendly but will grab sunglasses, phones, and hats.

Temple dress code requires a sarong and sash, which are provided free at the entrance. Remove shoes before entering sacred areas. Photography is allowed throughout the temple and during the dance.

After the Kecak dance, your driver takes you to Jimbaran Bay for the famous beachside seafood dinner. Rows of restaurants set up tables on the sand, and you dine on grilled fish, prawns, and lobster while watching the lights of departing planes from the nearby airport.

The complete Uluwatu sunset and Kecak dance tour costs Rp 500.000 with a private driver. Pickup can be from any location in Bali. We recommend leaving at 3 PM from Canggu or Ubud to allow for traffic and temple exploration time.
